The Schwinn IC Pro is a upper-level indoor cycling bike that is designed to give you a true road feel. Featured is a high inertia drive system consisting of a 38 pound flywheel and direct drive gearing. The seat is fully adjustable, and the pins are stainless steel to prevent corrosion. The pedals have toe clips, and the leveling system has transport wheels for portability and floor protection. The resistance increases and decreases with the turn of a knob. The maximum user weight is 300 pounds, and two water bottle cages are included. The compatible user size: 4’11″ to 6’8″.
Pros
The 38 pound flywheel provides a real road feel, and the 300 pound maximum weight indicates a very strong frame. The design is very ergonomically sound and visually appealing, and the bike is very customizable. The linear resistance system has it’s benefits. One problem that some bikes have is that the resistance increases too much, even when slightly turning it. This resistance on the other hand allows you to make very subtle resistance adjustments.
The two water bottle cages are a unique feature. While this may not seem like much, having an extra water bottle on hand is very convenient. It also is suited for users from 4’11″ to 6’8″, which is quite extensive despite the handlebars not being able to adjust horizontally.
Cons
The friction based brake resistance was a problem for at least one customer, who noted that they weren’t aligned properly. Also, you really have to turn the knob too much in order to more resistance. The resistance knob on some bikes is too sensitive, this one isn’t sensitive enough. This may or may not be an issue depending on who you are, but it’s worth noting.
Another downside is that is that it has a chain-drive system. A few other Schwinn exercise bikes have a belt-drive system, which is more smooth and quiet. This bike is also a bit pricey in my opinion. A few customers also had some repair issues.
Summary
The Schwinn IC Pro is a very solid, well-designed and constructed indoor cycling bike. It’s sturdy, customizable, and has a road-bike feel. However, it does lack a belt-drive system and the bike is a bit pricey for what you’re getting.
